I would definitely join this book club! Keep me posted. With the new job, I am no longer afraid of driving. In fact, I kind of love it now.

Anyways, thanks for your insights on the Kindle. As we discussed earlier, I mostly went with the Nook because it was actually instantly available the moment I wanted it, whereas the Kindle was back-ordered, and would have to be shipped, etc. I am beyond happy with the Nook and more interested in reading than I have been in years. As well, being a librarian, it helps me feel more in the loop, i.e. I want to try to keep up on some of the latest titles to see what they’re like.

And again, being a librarian, thanks for your support! We need it! (Though, truthfully, fines
account for something like 10% or less of our budget…)

Finally, here’s a dirty little secret, which you may already know: though more obscure titles may be harder to find, you can actually download ebooks in the Kindle format (mobi) via torrent sites. It’s how I stocked my device, which actually uses epub.

Also, something you forgot to mention, just for comparison’s sake: The Nook has an expandable memory, via SD card, which the Kindle does not.

Glad to see you back on the circuit, even though I recently closed down my own blog. It got to the point of being counterproductive and mocking me with its failure…

    Carry on, carry on! 🙂

I’m really happy about the driving. Do you drive on the highway now too? It’s kind of a null point in terms of me though because now I live in V-town next to my sister. (Well, I will in about two weeks.)

It’s good to know that fines don’t provide much revenue. I could have researched it, but I just supplanted my knowledge of bank fees instead. Turns out the two are highly discrepant in terms of revenue. Ahem.

So if you Torrent a book, do you just email it to yourself I guess?

I wish that at some point in the future, Amazon will enable the built-in microphone on the Kindle. That would make it possible to just dictate your notes into the thing, which is how I’ve gotten used to take notes.

That’s an excellent idea. Although I joked about it not being your personal assistant, it would be mighty helpful to have a calendar in there because as it were, I take it everywhere with me. We should email Amazon.

Actually, the torrents can just be loaded via USB cord. Did the Kindle come with one?

This was exactly the kind of review I was looking for – thanks for writing it! Helped me make a sound decision and I’m going to hop on the Kindle train this holiday! =) I’d join your club, but I have the wrong equipment. =( The idea still sounds cool, though.
